Overpass might not have broke here in the states yet, but I only think that's a matter of time. The four piece band from Birmingham, UK who has quietly flown under the radar here, just released their debut album this past June titled Elsewhere, Always (released via Communion Music Group) and I can safely say that it's already my top album of 2026. Yeah, bold move maybe with a lot of great albums released thus far, but honestly this one hits all the marks for a great debut album. The album blends emotional indie rock (with hints of shoegaze style guitar tones), touching lyrics and gigantic anthemic hooks.

 

The album opens strong with “Union Station,” an anthemic rocker that sets the tone: big guitars, driving rhythm, and a sing-along chorus that sticks immediately. Mid-album, the pace shifts nicely with the stripped-back “Bonnie & Clyde Pt. 2,” a tender acoustic moment that provides breathing room amid the louder numbers. The closer “Heaven” is a soaring, emotionally charged finale that lets the vocals shine and leaves you wanting more. For me however, the track that I can hear engulfing stadiums is the track "Spinning". A touching, soaring track that should be blasting from festival stages lead by a chorus of feverish fans that are clinging to every emotional note.

 

Band members Max Newbold- Lead Vocals and Guitar, India "Indie" Armstrong- Bass, Elliot Rawlings- Guitar, and Jake Bishop- Drums have managed to swing big and connected with not only a catchy, hook-laden, pulse pounding mix of hooks and melodies, but for me, my top pick for album of 2026. Spin it and play it loud like it was intended.
