Every time the Experience Hendrix tour comes to town, there’s a good chance that I’ll be there. I was fortunate enough to work on the tour back in 2016. Each night I had the opportunity to watch the artists perform some of the greatest music ever to be made, from one of the greatest musicians to ever grace us—Jimi Hendrix.
This year’s tour featured some highly regarded guitar players who regularly participate in this touring ensemble, including Eric Johnson, Zakk Wylde, who comes into the audience to rip an extended solo on the track “Purple Haze”, Mato Naji of Indigenous, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
Newcomers to the line up included, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram who played an incredible version of “Hey Joe”, Ally Venable lighting the audience on “Fire”, Samantha Fish schooling us about “Crosstown Traffic”, and Devon Allman, who did a killer rendition of “Little Wing”, by the way.
All of these talented musicians paid homage to Jimi and his legacy in their own, unique ways by utilizing a different set of licks and tricks that they have honed in their many years of playing. And from where I was standing (right up front), it’s as good as it gets.
