Boston Massachusetts has had its fair share of great bands. Aerosmith, J Geils Band, Boston, Extreme, New Edition, and let’s not forget New Kids On The Block. But there is only one band that I will continue to buy tickets for every time they come back to New England, and that is the Pixies.
The Soundwaves staff crossed the border and drove into Boston for last night's festivities at the MGM Music Hall. It just so happened that The Lumineers were playing next door at Fenway Park, so getting into Kenmore Square and trying to find parking was a complete shit show!
The Pixies took the stage right at 9pm. For those who came to this first of two shows that they are playing at the MGM, they went straight into their album Bossanova and ran through the tracks, top to bottom. Without a break, they played the complete album Trompe le Monde (my favorite in their discography) before finishing the night with 4 of their hits.
Whether you are a diehard longterm listener over 50 years old who have been singing their anthems for decades, or this was your first Pixies show because your parents dragged you along, Black Francis, Joey Santiago, David Lovering, and Emma Richardson executed these songs with precision and artistry, showcasing their masterful command of the band's iconic repertoire.
If you missed the show, don’t fret. This year the Pixies released Bossanova / Trompe le Monde - Live, a double 140g ice blue colored vinyl album during Record Store Day. Go buy it……if you can find one, that is.
