“We play Rock n’ Roll!”
I’ve had the pleasure of seeing The Record Company play at least ten times in the past. As openers for Jonny Lang back in 2015, to opening for John Mayer in arenas, playing at festivals, to headlining their own shows. It doesn’t really matter the size of the venue, the result is always the same. A consistent band with a balanced set of musicianship and personalities. Tonight we were at a venue right on the beach with large picture windows overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. There was a slight tourist vibe to the scene, but nevertheless, we were all here for a single purpose.
The Record Company never disappoints. They are an energetic trio unified in bringing it—whether that happens to be acoustic songs that touch your soul, blues rock harp-blowing raunchy slide-guitar bangers, or rockin’ covers of such songs as “So What’Cha Want” by the Beastie Boys or one of tonight’s encore songs, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” by The Rolling Stones.
Alex, Marc, and Chris had the audience dancing and singing all night. I always know when it’s going to be a good show when Chris is whipping himself into a frenzy in circles while rippin’ on his Gibson guitar, Marc is elevated on his feet above his drum kit whaling away on the skins and cymbals, and Alex keeps the train rollin’ and on course while strumming his Fender bass. In this exact moment, together, this unit is as solid as any of the biggest bands you have ever seen play.
Highlights for me were the touching ode to family in the track, “The Movie Song”, to their hit, “Off The Ground” from their first album, Give It back To You.
You owe it to yourself to see this band live. Don’t let me tell you twice.
