An avid music listener is always looking for the next great song or band. They tend to get tired of the same music all the time. Speaking from my own experience, I try to update my playlists frequently so that when I exercise, ride my mountain bike, or go for drives I don’t get bored. If you’re also a vinyl collector, that puts you in a whole different distinct category. This type of listener wants an experience beyond just a simple download. They dedicate significant time to sit and listen, flip the vinyl over, analyze and contemplate. Don’t get me wrong, I fall into both of these categories—a music streamer and a vinyl spinner. However, there is something very different to buying and downloading a few hit songs versus listing to an album straight through the way that the artist intended for you to hear it.

 

Last year an advertisement popped up on one of the social media platforms I frequent and I was introduced to Vinyl Moon, a monthly subscription service that releases compilations of new artists on vinyl with creatively designed packaging. I ordered a copy of Volume 100 figuring that they would really go above and beyond when selecting tracks for their milestone release. I was not disappointed. I discovered a number of new artists that were not on my radar which prompted me to take a deep dive to see where they were from and what they were about. And finding this information didn't take too long since they include detailed info about each band within the packaging.

 

Recently, another advertisement popped up in my social feed for Vinyl Moon, and it was showcasing music from Volume 98. Again, I was smitten by the song they chose to showcase in their ad and the album's artwork, and I ordered it as well.

 

Curating music is an art and skill that takes time. You really need to be well versed in the various genres of music and know how to include music that will complement each other, specifically on a compilation. I applaud what the folks at Vinyl Moon have been doing for the past ten years.
