Eggy Brings Joy, Precision, and Jam-Heavy Magic to 3S Artspace
BennyD, contributor, and host of Ben Jammin’
Concert Date: May 14, 2026
Venue: 3S Artspace, Portsmouth, NH
The Soundwaves crew—myself, Jason, Troy, and Mike—rolled into Portsmouth’s 3S Artspace last night, and to put it simply: Eggy absolutely shredded. Still reeling from a massive guest appearance at Goose’s El Gonzo festival in Mexico, the Connecticut-based quartet kicked off their highly anticipated spring/summer tour with a performance that was nothing short of a masterclass in modern jam. They blended undeniable style, raw talent, and incredibly precise musicianship, but what stood out above all else was pure, unadulterated joy.
Two Sets of Creative Exploration
Serving as night one of a two-night run at the venue, this show felt intentionally geared toward deep exploration. The band treated the room to a massive, jam-heavy two sets and an encore that perfectly struck the balance between calculated precision and loose, improvisational freedom. While the setlist featured a handful of definitive fan favorites, it was the connective tissue between the tracks that made the night truly special.
Eggy filled the evening with deeply creative, sprawling interludes that felt entirely spontaneous yet perfectly tailored to the intimate, artistic spirit of 3S Artspace. They read the room flawlessly, matching the heartbeat of a crowd that was locked in from the jump. With night one in the books as a jam-heavy explorer, tonight’s follow-up will likely shift gears to be a bit more song-focused.

Highlights and The Vibe: Tight Playing & Huge Smiles
Right out of the gate, the aptly named "Smile" set a perfect tone for the evening as the opener, instantly locking in the room's energy. Another massive highlight of the first frame was the seamless, sandwich sequence of Elton John's "Bad Side of the Moon" into "I Pray" and back again—a sequence that put both their creative arrangement skills and tight improvisational chops on full display.
From a production and performance standpoint, the night was flawless. The sound in 3S Artspace was fantastic—crisp, balanced, and punchy enough to let every member's contribution shine. The playing was tight, intellectually interesting, and constantly evolving, capped off beautifully by a heavy, triumphant "12 Pounds of Pain" in the encore slot.
The Takeaway: You can always tell when a band is playing at you versus playing with you. Eggy spent the entire night having absolute fun on that stage, and that energy was a two-way street.
The room was defined by two things: massive smiles and a profound sense of community. Beyond the music, a huge hand goes out to both Eggy's hardworking road crew and the entire 3S Artspace venue staff. From the front door to the soundboard, everyone was incredibly friendly, kind, and helpful, anchoring the night in a welcoming vibe that matched the band's on-stage energy. It wasn’t just a concert; it was a shared experience between a band at the top of their game and a crowd grateful to bear witness.
