It amazes me to watch bands that have been around for nearly 50 years take the stage with such grace and power and perform their songs as if they were the first time they ever sang them.

We spent last night with the post-punk new wave band The Psychedelic Furs at the MGM Music Hall in Boston. This was the second time that we’ve seen the Pfurs—we saw them last year on their tour with the Jesus and Mary Chain. This time around, they were touring with Gary Numan.

Lead vocalist and founding member Richard Butler and his brother Tim on bass guitar were accompanied by a great band that ran through a killer set list that started off with one of their popular tracks “Heaven” and moved into others including some of my favorites “President Gas”, “The Boy That Invented Rock & Roll”, “MyTime”, “Love My Way”, and of course their most famous track, “Pretty In Pink”.

Richard is old school—instead of a teleprompter, he opted for a music stand and a binder of printed lyrics that he never had to read. Wearing a dark suit and dark sunglasses, he floated back and forth across that stage with the energy and stamina of someone half his age. I’m 100% certain that the predominantly older crowd (including myself) thoroughly enjoyed their performance.
