The new archival release (August, 15th 2025) from the Jerry Garcia Band, Live at the Warfield '91, is a huge treat for fans. It's a six-CD set or 3 sets of vinyl depending on your preference that captures the legendary three-night run from February 28 to March 2, 1991, at the beloved Warfield Theatre in San Francisco. This collection, which was put together from the soundboard recordings, gives you every single note from all six sets. It’s a real deep dive into the awesome chemistry between Jerry and the band: John Kahn, Melvin Seals, David Kemper, and the amazing vocalists Jaclyn LaBranch and Gloria Jones. This isn't just another live album; it's a perfect example of how this band could take a song and make it their own, creating that special, joyful vibe that was so unique to them.

The first night, February 28, gets things started on a high note. The show kicks off with a bouncy, reggae-infused "The Way You Do the Things You Do," and right away you can feel the band's energy. Highlights from this night include a super fun "You Never Can Tell (C'est La Vie)" and a soulful "Midnight Moonlight," where Jerry's guitar work is just killer. The gospel harmonies from Jaclyn and Gloria on "My Sisters and Brothers" and the fiery "Deal" show you that they were totally locked in from the get-go.

March 1 is often called the best night of the run, and it's easy to hear why. This show is full of powerful songs and some serious jamming. They do a double-shot of Van Morrison and Bob Dylan, with fantastic takes on Morrison’s "He Ain't Give You None" and "And It Stoned Me," and Dylan’s "Forever Young" and "Positively 4th Street." But the absolute highlight is the insane 20-minute "Don't Let Go." This track is a clinic in improv, with Jerry building and releasing tension so gracefully while the rest of the band lays down a monster groove. It's a wild ride.

The final night, March 2, is a perfect way to close out the run. The setlist is a great mix of emotional ballads and high-energy rockers. Dylan pops up again, with a moving "I Shall Be Released," a spooky "Señor (Tales of Yankee Power)," and a smoking "Tangled Up in Blue" to wrap things up. The passion from everyone on stage is so obvious, and these recordings really make you understand why the Warfield was such a special place. The band's chemistry and pure musicality on display here make this run a definite highlight for any JGB collection.

Live at the Warfield '91 is so much more than a historical document; it's an experience. If you were there, it's a vivid trip back in time. If you weren't, it’s a perfect way to experience the magic that happened whenever Jerry and his band hit the stage.
