Pink Breath of Heaven's debut, Colors Make a Sound, is a vibrant psych-shoegaze gem, pressed on a pink with a slight white swirl 12" LP. Released May 2, 2025, via Little Cloud Records, this nine-track record from San Francisco's Liv Field and Rex John Shelverton, with Mario Cataruzolo (bass) and Tash de Valois (drums), blends dreamy textures with raw energy.
Opener "The Wind Is Calling" sets a frenetic tone, its fuzzed-out bass and Field's haunting vocals leaping from the vinyl's warm, dynamic sound. The title track, "Colors Make a Sound," is a synesthetic highlight, with shimmering guitars and hypnotic rhythms that shine in analog clarity. "Blue Is the Morning" soars with emotional depth, while "Look Inside" offers meditative introspection. Side B's "See It Now" and "I Feel God" dive into darker, gothic vibes, with the vinyl's low-end punch grounding their ethereal melodies. Closer "Dream About My Love" leaves a bittersweet echo, perfect for late-night spins.
Shelverton's production balances grit and lushness, and the vinyl mastering amplifies every layer, though faint surface noise may occur in quieter moments. Colors Make a Sound is an immersive debut that channels My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive while forging a unique path. A must for psych and shoegaze fans, this LP envelops listeners in its radiant haze.
