The Police

LIVE, Vol. 1 Boston 1979

This album is the sound of a power trio catching fire!

If you want to hear exactly why The Police became one of the biggest bands in the world, skip the studio hits for a brief moment and put this on. If you thought they were solely a “pop” band, you got another thing coming.

This 2021 Record Store Day release is a true delight. Recorded at The Orpheum in Boston, MA in November 1979 and broadcast live on Boston’s former rock radio station 104.1FM WBCN, this live recording captures the English trio right when they were getting huge!

The band rips through each track faster than I’ve ever heard them play. Think punk-adjacent powerhouse with the energy that is frantic, bordering on over caffeinated. The recording quality is excellent and the blue vinyl variant pressing is with minimal noise.

Thanks to Wardtone Records in North Hampton, NH for finding a copy for me. Make sure to visit them if you’re ever on the New Hampshire Seacoast.
